There's a lot to look forward to in 'Apex Legends' season seven
With season seven less than a week away, EA and Respawn are finally detailing the new content and features that we can expect from the latest update to the popular battle royale game Apex Legends. Thanks to a series of previews, it’s now common knowledge that Apex will soon host a third map, Olympus, plus a new “charmingly eccentric” Scottish astrophysicist called Horizon who comes complete with a pretty harrowing backstory. Horizon — aka Dr. Mary Somers — is a master of gravity.
The latest 'Apex Legends' hero is a master thief named Loba
The latest Apex Legends season introduces a new character named Loba and quest mechanic to the popular battle royale.
'Apex Legends' Old Ways trailer shows off its town takeover mode
Respawn has shared a new gameplay trailer that details what Apex Legends players can expect when tomorrow’s the Old Ways event starts. You’ll be able to obtain these through Apex’s direct purchase shop a new prize track.
'Apex Legends' tournaments get a new online-only schedule
Respawn and EA's dreams of establishing Apex Legends as an esports staple aren't going according to plan. The Apex Legends Global Series team is moving its events online "for the time being" due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that means both more remote events overall as well as greater reward for those who participate. There are now three more Online Tournaments (#4, #5 and #6) due to start on April 18th, May 2nd and May 30th, while the already-scheduled Online Tournament #3 starting April 4th is now poised to offer $100,000 in prize money on top of series points. Its finals will broadcast on Twitch and YouTube on April 6th.
The first 'Apex Legends' map is returning for a weekend-long event
If it's been a while since you played Apex Legends, you may want to take some time to return to the game this weekend. Starting today through to February 24th, Respawn Entertainment is bringing back Kings Canyon, Apex's original map, as part of a separate playlist. What's more, the Kings Canyon that's available to play this weekend is the original launch version, not the tweaked variant that came with the game's second season.
'Apex Legends' season 4 trailer shows the assassin Revenant in action
Apex Legends Season 4 is about to get underway, and Respawn offered a taste of what's in store with a gameplay trailer. Opening in the guise of a Hammond Robotics corporate video, it hints at some forthcoming changes to the World's Edge map. The clip showcases an enormous planet harvester that looks set to dominate and disrupt the arena.
The next 'Apex Legends' character is a cyborg assassin named Revenant
Respawn pulled a big ol' bait and switch when it announced the next playable Apex Legends character. It initially said the newest legend to hit the battlefield would be Forge, a brawler with a massive robotic arm. But Respawn pulled the rug out from under fans with a video that shows someone (or something) killing off Forge. That murderer, as it happens, is the battle royale's new hero proper.
EA will host an ‘Apex Legends’ tournament series in 2020
It was probably only a matter of time, but Apex Legends is about to get its own esports league. Starting early next year, EA and developer Respawn Entertainment will invite the game's top PC players to compete in the Apex Legends Global Series.
‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order' broke multiple sales records for EA
Less than a month after release, EA has declared Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order a success. While the publisher didn't break out any numbers, it did say that the title has sold more digital downloads than any other Star Wars game to date in its first two weeks of availability. EA also said that Fallen Order had the best PC launch of any of its Star Wars games.
'Apex Legends' adds two-player teams on November 5th
Apex Legends players won't have to choose between full three-player squads or (when it's an option) going solo, at least for a while. Respawn is adding a "limited time" duos mode to the battle royale game starting on November 5th. Other details aren't forthcoming, but the appeal is fairly self-evident. You can get backup from your go-to gaming buddy without having to recruit someone or (gasp) count on a stranger.
Improved 'Apex Legends' training zone better prepares you for combat
As much as Respawn has expanded Apex Legends' gameplay, its training area has remained... lackluster. You only get to play a single character and a sliver of the available gear, making it all too likely that you'll have to learn about an ability or weapon in the middle of a real match. That won't be a problem going forward. An upcoming revision of the training space, nicknamed the "firing range," will let you try any character, gun and ability in a controlled environment with practice dummies. You can even bring your friends in if you want to practice teamwork.
'Apex Legends' will bring back solo mode in a Halloween event
Don't despair if you miss Apex Legends' solo mode -- it's coming back, if not quite in the same way. Respawn and EA are running a Halloween-themed Fight or Fright event between October 15th and November 5th, and its centerpiece is a limited-time Shadowfall mode that has 35 players squaring off in a nighttime version of Kings Canyon (which is also back following the new map release). It's not a typical battle royale, however. Anyone who dies joins an undead "Shadow Squad" that only has high-powered melee attacks, and the last 10 living players have to make it to an evacuation ship while the undead hordes try to stop them.
'Apex Legends' Season 3 debuts with a new hero and new map
If Apex Legends felt like it was getting a little stale, you'll be glad to hear it just got a breath of new life. Respawn and EA have launched Season 3 as promised, bringing with it both the recon-oriented hero Crypto and, importantly, the first new map since launch. World's Edge includes a much more varied landscape with icy hills, dangerous lava and other challenges. It'll be the only map you can play at this stage, although Respawn aims to bring King's Canyon back once it studies "data, sentiment and feedback."
'Apex Legends' Season 3 comes with the game's first new map
With the start of Apex Legends Season 3 just days away, developer Respawn Entertainment has saved the biggest surprise for last. When the new season starts next Tuesday, players will get to check out the game's brand-new map, World's Edge. Respawn shared a cinematic trailer this morning that helps give a sense of the new battleground.
'Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order' trailer teases new story details
After providing an extended gameplay look at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order earlier this year, EA and Respawn have released a new story-focused trailer for their upcoming action-adventure game. The trailer opens with Cal Kestis, the game's protagonist, escaping from Second Sister, one of the Imperial Inquisitors tasked with hunting down the last of the Jedi. Cal is saved by Cere Junda, a Jedi Knight in hiding.
‘Apex Legends’ Season 3 launches with a new hero on October 1st
It's official: Season 3 of Apex Legends will start on October 1st. Included in the update is Crypto, Apex's newest playable character; an all-new battle pass with more than 100 in-game items; the new charge rifle weapon; and a tweaked ranked mode. Developer Respawn Entertainment says it will reveal additional new features in the week-and-a-half leadup to the launch of the new season.
'Apex Legends' teases its newest playable character with in-game cameo
In one of the more elaborate and novel teasers for a new playable character in an online game, you can already see Apex Legends' newest star. You just can't play him. Over the last few days, players have spotted Crypto, Apex's long-rumored hacker character, in the game's King's Canyon area. He'll be in a lab hacking a computer. When he spots the player, he makes a dash for it.
