2020 put us on the edge of a processor revolution
Intel put out another high-end chip, 10th-gen “Comet Lake”, which added a few cores but is still based on its aging 14nm transistor design, and AMD countered with Zen 3, an improved version of its desktop architecture that now goes up to 16 cores. Apple may be testing Macs with AMD processors
Recently discovered references to AMD CPUs within the code of the latest macOS Catalina betas suggest Apple may be testing the chipmaker's processors to see how they work with its Mac computers. A Reddit and Twitter user named "_rogame" spotted the code snippets, which reference several different AMD processors. For instance, one codename that has come up is "Renoir," which correlates to AMD's new Ryzen 4000-series chips.
Dell debuts an AMD Ryzen version of its G5 gaming laptop
Dell is expanding its G5 gaming laptop line with an unusual addition: AMD hardware under the hood. AMD has taken a big bite out of the PC market over the last few years, especially when it comes to high-end workstations. Still, it's almost nowhere to be seen when it comes to laptops, especially among ultraportables and more powerful systems, where Intel dominates. This year, the company is aiming to change that with its new Ryzen 4000 chips, which combine its Zen 2 core and 7 nanometer fabrication process. The result is some of the most intriguing mobile chips we've ever seen.
AMD's 64-core Threadripper will be available February 7th
When AMD said its 64-core Threadripper 3990X would be ready in 2020, it apparently didn't intend to make people wait very long. The brag-worthy processor is now slated to be available on February 7th for a staggering $3,990 (yes, that matches the model number). Clearly, this is meant primarily for workstations where more cores could easily save time and money; you're better off with one of the more 'affordable' Threadrippers if you just want to lord an advantage over your fellow gamers.

AMD delays 16-core Ryzen 9 CPU to November
We hope you weren't determined to build an all-out AMD gaming rig in September. AMD has delayed the release of its 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor by two months to sometime in November. The company wants to meet "strong demand" for the highly parallel CPU, the company said in a statement to AnandTech. In short, it wants to be sure there's enough supply to justify a release. There is an upshot to this news for enthusiasts, though.
