Man, who needs to go to CES anymore? Intel's frailly maintained secrecy around Sandy Bridge processor identities has been blown to smithereens today by Italian systems integrator Santech. The company lists a now familiar Core i7-2630QM (quad-core, 2GHz) alongside an i7-2720QM (2.2GHz), an i7-2820QM (2.3GHz), and an i7-2920XM (2.5GHz), confirming once and for all that Intel has completely lost its mind when it comes to naming chips. Other specs include up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 750GB of magnetic storage or 160GB of the solid state stuff, a pair of USB 3.0 ports, and a 15.6-inch display that can be either glossy or matte, with a resolution of either 1366 x 768 or 1920 x 1080, depending on your preference and budget. Deliveries are said to start on January 27th and prices range between €1,200 ($1,577) and €3,000 ($3,943).

  • Santech LV1 is low voltage and low fat, but not low price

Santech might not be the most familiar name around here, but the company has a bit of history in the mobile field, and its latest 13.3-inch effort definitely merits a second look. Coming in under that magical mental barrier of an inch in thickness and sporting an Intel CULV processor, it's slinky and (just) powerful enough to be called an ultraportable. Add in a claimed 12 hours of battery life, and the LV1 would seem like a viable competitor to Acer's Timeline series, but it falters on pricing, which -- once you add the 8-cell battery to the base unit of a SU3500 1.4GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD -- is €701 ($1,003) after taxes, or €100 more than an almost identical Aspire 3810T from Acer. While we've yet to see the expected flood of Centrino 2-based gear, things certainly seem to be picking up as we near the end of that little delay, with Santech only the latest to debut a laptop based on the platform once known as Montevina. Dubbed the X46, this one comes packing a 15.4-inch WXGA+ display, along with your choice of Core 2 Duo processor up to 2.8GHz, up to 4GB of RAM (plus 2GB of Intel Turbo Memory). a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card, a max 320GB hard drive (or 200GB if you want to do 7,200 rpm), and your choice of a DVD burner or Blu-ray drive. Look for this one to start shipping in Europe by June 30th, with prices starting around the $1,000 mark for the default configuration.

  • SanTech announces Santa Rosa T34, V35, and X36 laptops

Santa Rosa continues its relentless march into laptop hardware with the Italian company SanTech announcing that it has a whole line-up of machines running on the new chip and ready to go. The bottom end machine is the T34, which has a 13.3-inch display, a Core 2 Duo clocked at 1.8GHz, and a 256MB GeForce Go 8400M video card. Running on Vista, the T34 comes with 1GB RAM, has a multi format DVD burner, either a 5400RPM 160GB hard drive or a 7200RPM 100GB drive, 802.11n, Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel webcam. The V35 simply ups the screen size to 14-inches, but drops the graphics card down a notch to the slower GeForce 8000M model. The X36 moves the screen estate up to 15.4-inches, the processor to 2.4GHz, and the graphics card up to a GeForce Go 8600GT with 512MB of video ram, but the hard drive space stays at 100GB along with the other specs from the T34. All of these models come with 1GB of Turbo Memory cache, but you probably won't be too excited about that. Unfortunately, the only information that we have on pricing or availability is that the models will probably be limited to Italy. Lets hope you're all booked up for a trip to Tuscany this summer then.[Via Electronista]
