When Kevin Mayer, Disney's chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and International business, took the stage at D23 last month, the first thing he said was that the company's goal is to "entertain and inspire audiences of all ages." Mayer pointed to Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox as the perfect example of the breadth of content that will be on Disney+, the streaming service that's launching on November 12th in the US and Canada. "Never [has so much of] our content been previously available, whether you're nostalgic for your childhood favorites or simply need Baby Groot," Mayer, who was an instrumental figure in the Disney purchases of Pixar, Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm, said about Disney+.

Lenovo's first AR headset had a strange limitation. It would only play games, and at launch there was just one of them: Star Wars: Jedi Challenges. Sure, that's a massive franchise, but it was hard to believe the company expected people to spend $200 on an AR kit just to play a single game. As it turns out, the Star Wars title will no longer be the Mirage AR's solo offering. Continuing its partnership with Disney, Lenovo is releasing a new Marvel: Avengers game called Dimension of Heroes, along with some new controllers.

The Disney+ Showcase at the D23 Expo started with a live performance from the cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. And that wasn't just about getting the crowd fired up. For Disney, it was an opportunity to give its biggest fans a taste of one of the original shows that will anchor its upcoming streaming service, Disney+. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, along with other originals like The Mandalorian and blockbuster movies such as Captain Marvel, are a key part of how Disney hopes to lure people into signing up for Disney+, which launches November 12th for $6.99 per month. From Pixar to Marvel, to Star Wars and National Geographic, Disney is betting on the power of the brands it owns to make its streaming efforts a success -- and, at D23, the company made it clear that it's going to get as much as it can out of them to help it get there.

At its D23 event this weekend, Disney is revealing a lot more about its plans for the Disney+ streaming service and has confirmed several new Marvel TV shows that are on the way. In addition to ones we'd heard about like The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, Wandavision, Hawkeye and What If...?, MCU head Kevin Feige announced it's filling out "Phase Four" with other new shows including Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight. According to Feige, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel will appear in MCU films in addition to her show. Beyond Marvel, Disney+ also brought out Hilary Duff to announce she's returning as Lizzie McGuire in an all-new series for the service, and flashed a trailer for Jeff Goldblum's National Geographic show. Later, we saw a trailer for The Mandalorian, as well as news of a new Star Wars show where Ewan McGregor will return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Other trailers shown at the event included Lady and the Tramp, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and Kristen Bell's Encore reality show. We got an early look at the service, check below to see some of the new trailers and show logos or read through our hands-on experience right here. Disney+ launches November 12th at a price of $6.99 per month.

Playing Marvel's Avengers, a living RPG with microtransactions

When Engadget's UK Bureau Chief Mat Smith attended the first-ever gameplay demonstration of Marvel's Avengers at E3, he walked away worried. The level he saw was essentially a tutorial, introducing the basic mechanics of each Avenger. It was unclear how all of the characters -- Black Widow, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America -- would play together, and they each seemed to be overpowered in comparison to the minions that flooded their way on the Golden Gate Bridge. He said the game looked hollow, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly why.

Marvel and Stitcher have unveiled their next big podcast collaboration, and this one is aimed squarely at long-time fans. Their next project, Marvels, premieres in fall 2019 and will revisit the similarly titled 1994 story from Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. The tale takes place in the aftermath of the Fantastic Four's climactic battle with Galactus and documents the experiences of a photographer, a jaded journalist and a college student as they investigate "one of the most super-powered conspiracy theories."

Disney continues its 2019 hot streak through the third quarter of the year, according to Tuesday's earnings report. The multimedia juggernaut recently closed out its mammoth 21st Century Fox buy, opened the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at its Southern California theme park, and is quickly gearing up for November's Disney+ stream service debut -- all of which serve to further cement Disney's position at the apex of the global entertainment market. But Mickey's masters are not done yet.

Marvel has provided the first details for phase four of its Cinematic Universe, and it won't surprise you to hear that Disney+ will play a large role. There are no less than five superhero shows reaching the streaming service, although you'll have to wait a while to watch them. And you'll have to watch them if you're an MCU completionist -- at least some of them will provide context for events in upcoming movies.

I’m worried about this ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ game

When Square Enix finally unveiled its big Avengers project, the reception was mixed, to put it politely. While Marvel's Avengers looked appropriately triple-A, all the familiar Avenger heroes looked a little too unfamiliar. The developers have gone for relatively realistic character designs. Unfortunately for them, we've seen truly "realistic" Avengers already, courtesy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This means that the in-game Avengers lineup looks more like a group of cosplayers acting out their fantasies. It also wasn't entirely clear from the initial trailer exactly what kind of game Marvel's Avengers will be. Behind closed doors at E3, however, the team walked me through a gameplay demo that demonstrated what Marvel's Avengers is. If you're expecting cinematic set pieces, superhero quips, fluid combat and plenty of goons to punch and blast, you'll get all of that. But why am I still so worried about this game?

Jessica Jones is one of the more beloved of the Marvel streaming series that have hit Netflix over the last few years. But as Disney starts consolidating its media empire ahead of the launch of its own streaming service, all good things are coming to an end. That includes Jessica Jones -- the final season hits Netflix on June 14th, and today we're getting a look at an appropriately dark trailer that shows Jones hitting peak antihero.

Riot Games is expanding 'League of Legends,' even in the midst of scandal

League of Legends has been online for nearly 10 years. During that time, it's competed with newcomers like Dota 2, PUBG, Overwatch, Fortnite and a slew of online first-person shooters, yet it's managed to remain one of the most popular games on the market, reporting 100 million monthly active players in 2016. One reason for this is the fact that League of Legends is free to download, with tiers of characters and items unlockable via microtransactions and playtime. However, a game can't survive for long if players don't stick around, which is why developers at Riot Games are constantly working on ways to evolve and enrich the League of Legends universe, both on and off the screen.
