OnePlus had already earned plenty of fans with affordable high-end phones like the 6T; our reviewer Richard Lai praised that handset's solid hardware and slick software performance while our user reviews echoed his praise for the camera, battery life and Oxygen OS. With the release of the 7 Pro, the company built upon its strengths with features like a more responsive in-display fingerprint reader, a pop-up 16-megapixel camera and a 90Hz AMOLED screen.

Readers tell us why the OnePlus 6T has earned so many fans

When Senior Editor Richard Lai reviewed the OnePlus 6T, new features like its distinct dewdrop notch and in-display fingerprint reader stood out to him. As the company's first offering through a US carrier and the successor to the popular OnePlus 6, the device had a lot to live up to. But it came with some trade-offs. While the 6T maintained a premium build and powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset, it ditched the headphone jack and offered some weak haptic feedback. Richard awarded the 6T an overall score of 89 (two points less than he gave the OnePlus 6). User reviewers, who tend to score more harshly, gave the 6T an average score of 84.

Never missing an opportunity to spread the good word, not only did OnePlus push out the 6T just in time to mark its fifth anniversary but it also released a tantalizing Thunder Purple edition shortly afterward, followed by the limited McLaren Edition with a whopping 10GB of RAM. It wasn't like the company needed this extra marketing ammo; the 6T brought exotic features, like an in-display fingerprint reader and dewdrop notch to the West. It's also the company's first ever tie-in with a US carrier, available on T-Mobile. The biggest question was whether the OnePlus 6T would make a fitting successor to my previous main phone, the OnePlus 6. Back in May, I concluded that the 6 was a very compelling package tagged with an attractive price. It's a hard act to follow. I've since switched to the 6T, and while it does offer some upgrades, there are some new trade-offs, too.

OnePlus can't stop making different variants of its flagships, and its latest effort is the result of a team-up with car maker McLaren. The new OnePlus 6T McLaren edition is basically a tweaked version of the phone maker's latest flagship, that's designed to deliver the speed you'd expect from a race car-branded handset.

When the OnePlus 6T launched earlier this month, buyers had two options when it came to color -- a matte black and a glossy black. But soon, customers in North America and Europe will be able to snag a purple variant of the phone. The Thunder Purple option will be available through OnePlus' online store starting November 15th.

Yes, the rumor was true: OnePlus is making its phones available through a US carrier for the first time. T-Mobile will sell the OnePlus 6T through both its retail stores and online as of November 1st as part of an exclusive deal. It'll normally sell for $580 up front in an 8GB/128GB configuration ($0 down and $24.17 per month for two years), but it'll be available for $300 ($0 down and $11.67 per month) for a "limited time" if you trade in qualifying hardware. And if you're particularly eager, you can score the 6T at the T-Mobile store in New York City's Times Square on October 29th at 5PM Eastern.

Life with the OnePlus 6T: A better phone with less compromise

OnePlus has been churning out two smartphones a year since 2016, and that sheer speed means some of those rapid-fire sequels weren't as exciting as we would've hoped. (Here's looking at you, 5T.) Despite sharing a lot with its predecessor, you can't really say the same of the new OnePlus 6T. It's a phone that, in many ways, is defined by its firsts: this is the first phone to be sold in the US with an in-display fingerprint sensor. This is the first OnePlus phone ever to work on Verizon. And it's the first OnePlus ever to get the full sales support of a major US carrier — in this case, T-Mobile. For years, the company has insisted on measured growth, but now it seems to be sitting right at the edge of a huge moment. We've had the phone for less than a week and publishing a full review didn't feel quite right yet, but in the meantime, I find myself nearly sold. As the company prepares to go big in the US, this phone just might be the right phone at the right time.

Bragi asks court to block sales of OnePlus 'Dash' products

Bragi isn't willing to wait for the court to resolve its dispute over OnePlus' use of the word "Dash." The audio device maker has filed for a preliminary injunction that would block OnePlus from using the Dash name in association with its products while the trademark dispute unfolded. While OnePlus had signaled that it was "phasing out" use of the Dash Charge name for its fast power technology in favor of Warp Charge, it allegedly refused to say whether or not the upcoming OnePlus 6T would adopt the new naming scheme. Bragi had to make this move to "ensure" the 6T launch didn't violate its trademark, according to the filing.

OnePlus moves 6T launch to October 29th to avoid clashing with Apple

If you're the sort who regularly tunes into device launches, you've probably noticed that Apple's October 30th iPad Pro event was set to clash with OnePlus' 6T premiere -- in fact, they were within an hour of each other. That's a bit of a problem, isn't it? OnePlus certainly thinks so. To that end, it's moving the 6T debut to one day earlier, on October 29th. If you were inclined to follow both, you won't have to juggle multiple liveblogs or streams just to stay current.

The OnePlus 6T, a more high-tech version of the OnePlus 6, will launch on October 30th, the company announced. It's expected to pack an in-display fingerprint sensor and feature a much smaller notch than Apple's latest iPhones and (apparently) the Google Pixel 3XL. On the downside, it will apparently lose the 3.5mm headphone jack, forcing you to either adapt the USB-C connector or use OnePlus' upcoming USB-C Bullets V2 earphones.

Apple seemingly hammered the final nail in the coffin for the 3.5-millimeter headphone jack in iPhones Wednesday after dropping the 6s and SE models (the last of its handsets to include the port) from its lineup. Another company is axing the headphone jack too, after OnePlus confirmed its upcoming phone won't include the port.

OnePlus' next phone, likely to be called the OnePlus 6T, will have an in-display fingerprint reader, CNET reports. OnePlus confirmed the feature, dubbed Screen Lock, saying it had initially planned for the fingerprint reader to be included in the OnePlus 5T, but that the technology wasn't quite ready for public release at the time. "We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action," OnePlus told CNET. "By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them."

OnePlus may get a boost in the US market with its next phone. CNET reports that according to people familiar with the matter, the OnePlus 6T will be backed by a major US carrier -- T-Mobile. While the standard version of the new model will be able to run on AT&T's and T-Mobile's networks, as has been the case with previous models, OnePlus will also release a version that's optimized for T-Mobile. CNET is also reporting an October launch and a $550 price tag, though it notes the price has yet to be finalized.
