The Boring Company has finished excavating the first of the two tunnels planned for Las Vegas Convention Center's underground loop transportation system. If you'll recall, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) tapped Elon Musk's company to develop the LVCC loop, which could cost around $52.5 million. The company called this development a "breakthrough" on its Twitter account and retweeted a video of its machinery breaking through a wall in the facility posted by the LVCVA.

The Boring Company's tunnel projects haven't had the warmest reception in the US, but that might not matter as much in the near future. Elon Musk has revealed that he'll be launching the company in China while visiting Shanghai for the World Artificial Intelligence Conference between August 29th and August 31st. There are still many unknowns, including the first projects, but it's a big step for a company that has so far been content to focus on American efforts.

The Boring Company is charged with building three tunnels: one for pedestrians and two for passenger "sleds," stretching across the Las Vegas Convention Center Campus. The two vehicle tunnels will be filled with a fleet of autonomous Tesla-based EVs that can carry up to 16 people at a time.

If you live in New York state and bought one of The Boring Company's Not-A-Flamethrowers, you probably want to get rid of it shortly. The state's Senate recently passed a bill that bans the possession of a flamethrower for recreational purposes, and legislators very explicitly singled out Elon Musk's gadget as an example. The measure bars specifically bars any device that projects burning fuel at least three feet away, which appears to include Boring's hardware.

Elon Musk's Boring Company has officially landed its first commercial contract: A $48.7 million project to build an underground transportation system around the Las Vegas Convention Center. The initiative has been dubbed the Campus Wide People Mover (CWPM), because its primary purpose is to move people around the facility. Authorities conjured up the project to go with the LVCC's expansion -- the whole facility will span 200 acres after all construction is done, and people would have to walk two miles to go from one end to the other. The Boring Company's "LVCC Loop" can take event attendees to their destination much faster.
