Valve officially launches Steam's personalized news hub
The personalized news portal that Valve started testing for Steam back in March is no longer an experimental feature. Unlike Steam’s old news feed that showed the same information for everyone, the News Hub will show you posts from the developers of the games you play, the games in your wishlist and the games you follow — so long as you’re signed into your account, of course. The News Hub even lets you add gaming sites through the Steam Curator system, so you can read the blurbs or full articles they post and watch the YouTube videos they upload, right on your feed.
Steam tries a broader category menu to make it easier to find new games
Valve has rolled out a new Steam Labs Experiment that can help narrow down your choices if you’re looking for new games to play. To start with, all new releases and popular titles can now be found under one menu marked “New & Noteworthy,” which will also display Steam events, such as game festivals and publisher sales. The experimental Genres section is much more extensive than Steam’s usual, populated with sub-genres under main ones to make results as specific as possible.

Steam Playtest makes it much easier to beta test PC games

Now Valve has launched Steam Playtest, so that developers can invite people and control access directly via the Steam store page for their game. Valve writes that this isn’t meant to replace Early Access beta testing, and can even be used alongside it, but unlike Early Access, this feature is free to use for developers and customers and doesn’t support sales.
