Watch 48 minutes of 'Cyberpunk 2077' gameplay
We've been waiting for the next Cyberpunk game for years since CD Projekt Red revealed it in 2012, and when we finally got early looks at E3 and Gamescom, it looked worth the wait. Now, the developer has released a 48-minute gameplay video that looks very similar to what we saw at those shows -- but now everyone can see the glorious, neon-drenched, frequently-violent future awaiting them in Cyberpunk 2077.
A small city worth of people are watching absolutely nothing on Twitch
The hottest ticket on Twitch Monday morning wasn't Fortnite star Ninja, for once. It was a seemingly endless list of garbled letters, numbers and punctuation, which more than 50,000 people were watching. They were hoping that the stream, from The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, would eventually give them some more details about the hotly-anticipated game, Cyberpunk 2077 (the game's title is noted in the stream). The wall of text is still going, and the stream's title, "Data Transmission in Progress," indicates that something is imminent, most likely a full trailer.
It's not always sunny in 'Cyberpunk 2077'
The Gamescom demo for Cyberpunk 2077 is nearly identical to the one shown at E3 two months prior, but it features a few important changes. First, it introduces a new weapon, a katana capable of emitting a magnetic field that deflects bullets, and it highlights the game's character-selection screens. Players will be able to pick their gender, appearance and backstory right from the beginning, filling in details about traumatic events in their past and other personal tidbits.
In 'Cyberpunk 2077' you control your own dark, intoxicating future
Cyberpunk 2077 looks fantastic. It's a joy to be able write those words, and it's a relief that they ring so true. CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the Witcher series, has been remarkably silent since revealing Cyberpunk in 2012 -- developers released one teaser trailer in 2013 and then went underground, leaving sci-fi and RPG fans in the dark for five long years. At E3 2018, they finally turned on the light. And, my oh my, what a sight it is.
Microsoft’s E3 2018 show: Our verdict
Microsoft's E3 keynote is in the rear-view. Join editors Billy Steele and Nick Summers as they break down the most important announcements. Or, if you haven't got 11 minutes, here's an even shorter rundown:
Here’s your first look at dystopian RPG ‘Cyberpunk 2077’
Finally, we have our first proper look at Cyberpunk 2077. We've known for some time that Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red is working on a new role-playing game set in a dystopian future. Beyond a brief teaser trailer, however, the studio has shown and said little about the title. That all changed today, however. A new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 was shown at the end of Microsoft's E3 press conference, revealing a high-tech world full of flying cars, holographic ads and robot wrestling. There was no gameplay, however — today's footage, while in-engine, was purely cinematic.
Hackers swipe designs for ‘The Witcher 3’ developer’s cyberpunk game
If you're developing a cyberpunk game, apparently you have to watch out for real-life hackers. According to a tweet from CD Projekt Red, "an unidentified individual or individuals" have acquired some internal documents that relate to the company's upcoming title, Cyberpunk 2077. The persons responsible then demanded a ransom for the material, promising to release the material to the general public if their demands weren't met. While this might seem like an elaborate marketing ploy, the company replied to our email for confirmation with an unambiguous, "This is real."
