Keanu Reeves might not be the only recognizable face to have a substantial presence in Cyberpunk 2077. Grimes, who's also on the soundtrack, recently held a livestream (since pulled) where she shared details of an in-game character she'd previously only teased. Appropriately, it's an iconoclastic musician with a 'colorful' history. You might want to skip the next paragraph if you're eager to avoid spoilers or sensitive to talk of self-harm.

Microsoft promised that its current generation in-house games would use Smart Delivery to take advantage of the Xbox Series X's performance, but what about the hinted-at third-party games? There appears to be one already lined up. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will get an Xbox Series X upgrade for free when it's ready. You should "never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades," the developer said. In short, you can buy the Xbox One version in September knowing that it'll see an improvement sometime after your Series X arrives.

You'd think that a single player game over four years old would be long past its prime, but don't tell that to CD Projekt Red. The studio's community lead Marcin Momot has revealed that the PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt broke its record for the most number of concurrent players, with nearly 94,000 people playing on December 29th. Polygon noted that the number has climbed higher since, and that the game was eighth in Steam's top ten games by player count (a position that holds true as we write this). For context, Witcher 3 set its previous record all the way back at launch in May 2015, when 92,268 people fired up the action role-playing title.

CD Projekt Red's highly-anticipated next game is still a few months away, but tonight during The Game Awards it announced what players will hear in Cyberpunk 2077. The soundtrack is star-studded, with performers like Run the Jewels, Grimes, Refused, ASAP Rocky, Gazelle Twin, Deadly Hunta, Rat Boy and others contributing to an "industrial" feel. Cyberpunk 2077 is due for release next April, so if you want to start your Keanu Reeves marathon a month early, it should be perfectly timed.

'Cyberpunk 2077' will have multiplayer, eventually

One of next year's biggest games just got bigger. Today, CD Projekt Red (CDPR) confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will eventually get a multiplayer component. In a tweet, the studio said: "The plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single player content, and — once we're done — invite you for some multiplayer action." CDPR had previously said the mode was "in R&D." Few thought it would materialize in the final game, though, given the single-player campaign -- like the Witcher titles before it -- is supposed to be absolutely massive.

'Cyberpunk 2077' video offers a 'deep dive' on playing styles

CD Projekt Red has a lot more to show of Cyberpunk 2077 than its initial gameplay video and Keanu Reeves' character. The studio has published a 14-minute "deep dive" clip that explores the dilapidated Pacific district and, crucially, the ways that entirely different player skill sets can accomplish the same mission. A "solo" player focused on brute force can gun their way through to the local gang leader, for example, going so far as to rip machine guns out of turrets. A netrunner, meanwhile, can rely on hacking and stealth to hijack security systems, create distractions and even take over people's implants.

In what amounts to the most concrete confirmation yet that it plans to develop a new mainline Witcher game, CD Projekt Red says it's moving to a "dual-franchise model." The move essentially means the studio plans to develop both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 sequels. The studio's parent company, CD Projekt Capital Group, announced the change in its latest bi-annual earnings report.

Late last year we learned that The Witcher's TV adaptation found its Geralt in the form of Superman star Henry Cavill, and now at Comic-Con fans have their first glimpse of the live-action series coming to Netflix. The teaser trailer was unveiled at a panel discussion, where Variety reports Cavill said he campaigned "passionately" for the role and that he's a big gamer who also did all of his own stunts. There's no release date on the trailer itself, but at least we have an idea of the monsters Geralt will be facing -- both human and otherwise. Attendees got a look at some footage that isn't in this clip, including the game's notorious bathtub, among other things.

Nanowire is the Swiss Army garrote of the future. The glowing orange thread is simple yet multifunctional, slicing through skin, muscle and bone like a whip. Or, it flings from the wielder's wrist like an electric snake to jack into the side of someone's head and hack their brain to bits.

Nintendo is bringing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to the Switch later this year, the company announced at E3 2019. The action RPG, created by CD Projekt, will be coming to the Nintendo's portable console in its "Complete Edition," which means it'll likely include all the DLC that's been available since 2015. Nintendo didn't say when, exactly, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available on the Switch, but we do know it'll be at some point in 2019. At least you have time to prepare yourself for your next fantasy.
