All-weather motorcycle helmet heats and cools your face, protects grey matter (video)
Bob Averill, who introduced us to the world of underwater hamster care, had a couple of other projects to show us during our visit to Portland, Oregon, including the All-Weather Motorcycle Helmet. What, you ask, makes a motorcycle helmet "all-weather?" Why, built-in heating and cooling, of course. Averill started with a standard Vega modular helmet, adding an evaporative cooler powered by a solar panel on top. The cooler pulls air from an intake on the helmet's side, sucking up more air at higher speeds and blowing it through a sponge, across the wearer's face. When things get too cold, there's a heater built into the liner, created from a heated mouse pad and powered by a lithium battery. Averill is looking to get the project mass-produced, but that's easier said than done, when it comes to a safety products like this -- and Kickstarter, apparently, isn't playing ball. Reevu lets loose updated MSX1 helmet with built-in rear-view system
Reevu's MSX1 helmet has been around in one form or another for years now, but the company has apparently be busily working on improving it all this time, and it's now finally let an actual production unit loose for an early review. As before, the helmet relies on an entirely mechanical mechanism rather than rear-view cameras, which webBikeworld says ends up functioning much like a car's rear-view mirror in practise, with the small mirror in front resting just outside the rider's line of sight. Most importantly, however, the site says that the helmet itself is "built like a tank," and is "good enough to stand on its own even if it didn't have the rear view system." Scala Rider G4 Bluetooth headset enables four-way biker communication
Longing to get reacquainted with your hog? Looking to not get all lonely on the open road? Cardo Systems -- which has been doing the whole intercom-laced motorcycle helmet for years now -- has just pushed out its latest concoction, and the Scala Rider G4 looks to be the most advanced version yet of the talking cranium protector. Aside from boasting an integrated Bluetooth chip for handsfree calling and voice activation, there's also a built-in FM radio and an intercom system that enables up to four riders to communicate within a full mile of one another. The company claims that the G4 is the "first Bluetooth headset to offer group intercom between up to three riders as well as communication among two riders and their two passengers on two bikes at distances up to 5,280 feet," and if A2DP audio streaming is your thing, you'll find support for that as well. Each lid will run you $279.95 and should last up to ten solid hours if yapping continuously, though we're guessing your jacksy will be needing an overnight stay before you hit that milestone.
Voz Sports unveils Bluetooth Frequency watch, Multy LYNK helmet
Bluetooth watches and Bluetooth helmets -- been there, done that on both points. Still, Voz Sports is keeping our attention with its attention to detail on the Multy LYNK helmet and Sports Frequency wristwatch (shown after the jump). As for the latter, you can expect a black (2GB) or red (1GB) face, Bluetooth v1.2, a waterproof casing, included earbuds and USB 2.0 connectivity. Checking out the headgear, you'll likely appreciate the "voice-activated, wireless two-way radio communication via 14 FRS channels with 38 privacy codes," Bluetooth v1.2, its NOAA weather receiver, noise-canceling microphone, waterproof stereo speakers and AA battery operation.
