Terminator is back with a new anime series coming to Netflix
Netflix announced Terminator: The Anime Series with an official teaser during its Geeked Week event over the weekend. There aren't many details about the series out yet, but Netflix says it's coming soon. It's executive produced by Skydance, Production IG and writer Mattson Tomlin.
Humanity is well on its way to a real-life Terminator uprising
The recent release of Terminator: Dark Fate saw both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton reprise their iconic roles and James Cameron's return as a writer and producer. While the sentient killing machines depicted in the Terminator franchise are comprised of CGI and Hollywood special effects, plenty of real world research is going into developing robots with similar capabilities, just without the murderous intent (we hope).
‘Terminator: Resistance’ will pit you against Skynet this December
Terminator: Resistance, a single first-person shooter based on the film franchise, is set to be released later this year. Publisher Reef Entertainment and developer Teyon unveiled a trailer today for game, which will be launching on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It is set in a post-apocalyptic LA, 30 days after Judgement Day, with players taking on the role of Private Jacob Rivers, a soldier in the Resistance Pacific Division. Many have raised concerns that the duo behind the game -- Reef and Teyon -- were also responsible for the widely reviled 2014 Rambo game. Of course, it's too soon to tell whether that fact alone will seal the game's fate. While Resistance's launch follows the release of the Terminator: Dark Fate film, the game only focuses on the first two films in the franchise. The UK-based publisher actually acquired the video game rights to the two films back in 2013, so this title has been in the works for a while.

Paramount Pictures has released a Terminator: Dark Fate featurette at San Diego Comic-Con, showing an inside look at the making of what people are calling the true sequel to Terminator 2. While the franchise spawned three movies since the iconic flick, including the critically panned Terminator Genisys with Emilia Clarke, Dark Fate will serve as a soft reboot to the series and will directly follow the events of Judgment Day. James Cameron and team even got Linda Hamilton to reprise her role as Sarah Connor almost three decades after saying hasta la vista to the character.
1989 promo shows the 'Terminator' NES game that never was
The very first game based on The Terminator was supposed to be an NES side-scroller from Sunsoft, but it never panned out that way. The company lost the movie license and reworked the game into what would become Journey to Silius. However, evidence of what that game looked like was seemingly lost to the ages... until now. Gaming Alexandria has obtained a promo video Sunsoft made to advertise the Terminator game at winter CES 1989, offering a rare peek at what the title was supposed to look like.
'Gears 5' arrives on September 10th
The wait is almost over. After teasing Gears 5 at last year's E3, Microsoft has now revealed that its legendary title is coming to the Xbox and PC on September 10th. As we learned from the cinematic trailer that dropped at E3 2018, Gears 5 is "going back to where it all began," and it features a new female character who will join the one and only Marcus Fenix. Their mission? To discover the origins of the Locust Army, which of course means you're going to be smashing a lot of aliens along the way.
Korean university faces boycott over fears of AI weapons
For all the joking we do about Skynet-scenarios and killer robots, there's some truth to the worrisome creations. To prevent Terminators from becoming a real threat, some 50 robotics experts are boycotting the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a university in South Korea, given its decision to open an artificial intelligence weapons lab, according to Financial Times. The fear is that it'll trigger a next-gen arms race and that ultimately, any safeguards put in place will be circumvented by terrorists and, more specifically, North Korea.

The next 'Terminator' movie will star Linda Hamilton
Since Terminator 2 debuted in 1991, various filmmakers have attempted to recreate the spectacle of the first two futuristic films with the help of an ageing Arnold Schwarzenegger. Director James Cameron and star Linda Hamilton sat out of the resulting three sequels as they ultimately failed to reach the same heights as the originals. Now, after a 25-year hiatus, the duo are set to return to the franchise, alongside Arnie, in what Hollywood Reporter says will be a direct sequel to Judgement Day.
'Terminator 2' UHD Blu-ray comes with a life-size robot arm
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is one of the best action movies of all time. It's also consistently been a great piece of reference material for home theater geeks who like showing off just what their fancy audio and video gear is capable of. Well, this fall writer-director James Cameron's classic will be released on UHD Blu-ray. With it comes HDR video, a new 4K restoration and, if you feel like dropping $175, a life-size T-800 endoskeleton arm replete with Cameron's signature. Yep, like the one John and Sarah Connor tossed into a vat of molten steel at the movie's end.
'Terminator' reboot will have James Cameron's oversight
The last few stabs at The Terminator movies haven't gone so well, to put it mildly -- you're more likely to have enjoyed the video game tie-ins. And that may well be due to the absence of James Cameron, who sold his rights back in 1984 and hasn't touched the save-the-future series since Terminator 2 in 1991. However, it might be close to getting the better treatment it deserves. Deadline sources hear that Cameron is in talks with Deadpool director Tim Miller to create a Terminator reboot. While it's not certain which path the movie will take (is it from scratch, a T2 follow-up, or something else?), it'd be promising to have the series' originator involved.

Over the years, artists, writers, filmmakers and game studios have all tackled the concept of artificial intelligence. Often their vision is of machines that are brutally hostile to humans. Philip K. Dick envisioned androids that murder their owners. The iconic HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey ... also murders his human companions. Of course, there's Skynet, which launches an all-out war on mankind. We could go on like this for a long time. But there are also those, like Spike Jonze, who envision us having a more complex relationship with computer-based personalities; one in which they could even be love interests. And in Star Trek: The Next Generation Data is not only a "good" android, but he's often the hero of the show. 'Terminator 2' is returning to theaters in 3D
Let's be honest: no matter how many times studios try to revive the Terminator franchise, its peak is (and possibly always will be) Terminator 2: Judgment Day. And James Cameron knows this too, it seems. The director is teaming with DMG Entertainment and Studiocanal to release a digitally remastered 3D version of Terminator 2 in summer 2016. It's a bid to cash in on the movie's 25th anniversary, as you might have guessed, but it's also about bringing Ahnold's blockbuster to audiences that might never have had a chance to watch on a big screen. China never got the original run, for example.
Play as the Terminator if you want to live in 'WWE 2K16'
WWE 2K16, the latest installment in Take-Two's yearly wrestling franchise, will feature a familiar face stretched around a nigh-indestructible metal skeleton: the Terminator, as portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger himself. The Terminator is a playable character in WWE 2K16, but only for those who pre-order the game on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One or Xbox 360. Pre-orders are live now and the game is due to hit shelves on October 27th, just in time to perfect your "Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator as a wrestler in a WWE video game" Halloween costume.
Shoot cyborgs in 'Terminator Genisys' game before the movie starts
When you head out to watch Terminator Genisys next week, you might want to get to the theater a little early. Not just to get good seats, but also to play a game on your phone before the movie starts. Based on Terminator Genisys: Revolution by Glu Mobile, it's apparently the first ever in-theater interactive game according to Paramount. To participate, simply join the local WiFi network (you'll see prompts to do so on your mobile device). You'll then be assigned to one of four teams, at which point you're instructed to point your phone at the movie screen to aim and shoot at incoming cyborgs. And don't worry about people doing this during the movie -- the game only lasts three minutes and is over before the film starts. Winning teams will get a poster of the movie, at least until July 2nd or while supplies last. The game is only playable in select participating theaters, the list for which you can find after the break.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is giving voice directions to Waze users
There's a new Terminator movie coming out, and what the studio saved on spellcheck it was able to pay Arnold Schwarzenegger for extra promotional work. As such, the actor has teamed up with Waze to lend his unique voice to the company's crowdsourced sat nav service. If you want to be steered around town by the governator, you just have to head into the settings menu and select Terminator Genisys from the options.

Google makes sure its founders will survive a Terminator assault
The Connor family may be doing a great job preventing Skynet from becoming self-aware and declaring war on humanity, but Google apparently isn't taking any chances. The internet giant has quietly uploaded a "killer-robots.txt" Easter egg file that tells Terminators to avoid hunting down the company's co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. There's more to this joke text than stopping murderous automatons from the movies, of course. It's really there to mark the 20th anniversary of robots.txt, the document you put on a site to exclude pages from Google's search crawler. However, it does make us wonder why Google didn't see fit to save people like Andy Rubin or Sundar Pichai -- surely it would expect those behind Android to get some mercy from androids.
