Apple's iPhone 7 Plus has already sold out
In a break from tradition, Apple said last week that it would no longer report the volumes of new iPhones it sells over the first pre-order weekend. The justification, according to the company, is that pre-order numbers are "no longer a representative metric" and that it basically knew the iPhone 7 would sell out anyway. That prophecy has come to pass, at least in part, after Apple released a statement confirming that it has already allocated all of its iPhone 7 Plus stock and sold all Jet Black iPhone 7s.
Gold iPhone 5s in short supply as Apple only ships 'tens' of units to stores
Many scoffed at the notion of a gold iPhone, but it seems that metallic champagne is the color everyone's trying to buy. While online orders are being pushed back to next month, sources have told Engadget directly that some of Apple's flagship stores only received "tens" of gold iPhones, which sold out the moment doors opened. In a statement to AllThingsD, the company said that demand for the new hardware has been "incredible," and that supplies are already limited. On the upside, Cupertino is said to have already increased orders for Auric Goldfinger's favorite iPhone by up to a third, but until those devices make it out of the factory, it's probably easier to knock off Fort Knox than to get a gold iPhone.
8GB Nexus 4 is sold out at Google Play and it won't be coming back, new Nexus handset on the way?
If you were still holding out before committing funds for a Nexus 4, seems like you missed your chance at the 8GB version. The $200 handset has sold out at Google Play in the US and the folks in Mountain View tell The Verge that it's not coming back. Those still eyeing the device can splurge for the 16GB option, while 8GB phones remain available in other global locales until the current stock is depleted. This certainly begs the question: is a new Nexus device on the way? With the Nexus 4 quickly approaching the year-old mark in October and a new version of Android on the horizon, this could be a signal that the new Nexus is just around the bend. We've reached out to Google on the matter and we'll update here as soon as we hear back.
Microsoft starts shipping Surface Pro again, says more coming to market 'quickly'
Microsoft's trying to address the recent shortfall of Surface Pro models, and has vowed via its Surface Pro blog to get more into the market "as quickly as we can." As such, it's begun dispatching 64GB SKUs to Best Buy, Staples and its own Microsoft Store in the US, with Canada to follow in a few days. 128GB SKUs will ship "later this week" to retailers, according to Redmond, "with some units available by the end of the week." All flavors of the tablet-cum-laptop disappeared from shelves shortly after they arrived in retail stores and online, both stateside and north of the border. The company said it'll fulfill orders for customers who made a reservation first, but that your local retailer "should have (stock) soon," too.
WWDC 2012 is sold out
And your time to purchase tickets for Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference 2012 is...over. (Bad news for devs in Hawaii.) We first got word that tickets went on sale about 8:30 ET. By 10:30 ET Apple had updated the WWDC page to announce the sell-out. We say "Enjoy the conference" to everyone who was lucky enough to get a golden ticket! And if you missed out for any reason, here's hoping that Apple posts the WWDC videos on iTunes in short order after the conference. Did you snag a ticket? Or did you miss the boat? Drop a note in our comments and let us know. Update: Some student devs are reporting that the WWDC scholarship form is being hammered. We believe the scholarship lottery does not operate under the same constraint as normal sales, so you may want to try your application again later.
Third-gen iPads sell out in pre-order, European orders now show 2-3 week delivery
To the surprise of absolutely nobody who follows the fortunes of Apple closely, the third-generation iPad is already a huge success. CNET reported on Friday that the initial batch of pre-order iPads has sold out. We had previously reported that the ship-by date for the U.S. had slipped to March 19, but the situation is much more dire for those outside of America. Does that mean you won't get your hands on a new iPad if you were planning on waiting in line on Friday? No -- an Apple spokesperson told CNET that "Beginning Friday, March 16, the new iPad will be available for purchase at Apple's retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers on a first come, first-served basis." That translates to "Get in line early if you want an iPad." While that doesn't really give an indication of exactly how many iPads will be available at Apple Stores and other retailers on Friday, potential line-sitters can take solace in those persistent rumors that Apple's been shipping planeloads of new iPads around the world for several weeks. In the U.S., doing a pre-order today will pretty much guarantee that your new device will ship by March 19. As you can see from the screenshots below (taken Sunday afternoon, 3/11/2012), things aren't as rosy for some of the other countries that will also get the new iPad starting next week. I feel sorry for the folks in Hong Kong; the online store is showing the next-generation iPad as "unavailable." Better start standing in line now, people.
HP TouchPad fire sale spurs online sell out, brick-and-mortars may still carry stock (updated)
It's the same old story of genius recognized only after death, and thus is the fate of webOS. If you were amongst the opportunistic hordes scavenging the interwebs for last night's bargain bin $99 HP TouchPad announcement, chances are you're fresh outta luck. The L.A. Times is reporting widespread online store sell outs for the recently abandoned and heavily discounted 16GB and 32GB slates. While HP's own site and the biggie online retail outfits, like Circuit City and Walmart, have all but sold out of their web inventory, Amazon's third party sellers still have the tablets on offer -- just at non-discounted prices. Of course, you could always leave the hypnotic glow of your monitor and venture out into the real world where actual, physical stores are purported to have the tabs currently in stock. Try your luck, and let us know how things go in the comments below. Update: We've been hearing reports that select Best Buy outlets have begun selling their remaining inventory as of this afternoon. Also, it appears RadioShack plans to get in on the discounted fun, as leaked internal memos indicate an impending price cut. If you haven't had any luck snagging one of HP's also-ran tabs, now's your chance.
Walmart temporarily drops iPhone 4 price to $147, not that you'll be able to find one
Quick! Someone tell Walmart Black Friday isn't for another five and a half months. With no new iPhone in sight, the retailer is selling the 16GB version for $147 on contract -- the kind of stunt we'd expect it to pull in an effort to reel in holiday shoppers. Why do we sound so unappreciative, you might ask? Easy: because you probably won't be able to get your hands on one. The sale, which applies to AT&T and Verizon models, lasts until June 30, and only an unspecified number of "select" stores will even be participating. No word on how many discounted phones Walmart has to shill, but both the black and white versions are sold out online, which doesn't exactly bode well for your chances of scoring one in person.
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer goes on sale in US, immediately sells out at Amazon
The US had to wait for its Eee Pad Transformer launch a little longer than the rest of the world, but it's finally gotten its wish today and consumers' reaction seems to have been nothing short of voracious. Amazon's order page for the $400 Android 3.0 tablet appears to have gone from "in stock" to "out of stock" within mere minutes, while Target -- the supplier fulfilling orders on behalf of Amazon -- also lists the Transformer as presently unavailable. ASUS' own Where To Buy page leads us to a bunch of dead ends as well, with Best Buy being the only retailer we can currently find with stock in the US. We can't say for sure whether we're looking at overwhelming demand or just limited supply, but it's hard to argue with ASUS' excellent value proposition here: a 10-inch IPS display, a dual-core SOC and a feature-rich tablet OS all for less than four Benjamins. Nintendo 3DS launches in Japan, populace tears through initial 400,000 unit shipment
You won't be able to snap one up at your local GameStop for a full month, but the Nintendo 3DS had a solid launch in Japan today, reportedly liquidating nearly its entire initial shipment of 400,000 spiffy stereoscopic gaming handhelds by the end of the day. Some of those sales were to customers waiting in a few lines up to 2,000 persons long, but those lines were exceptions to the norm -- several publications note that very few stores actually had any lines to speak of, as most Japanese electronics retailers sold out when the 3DS went on pre-order over a month ago. XIM3 Xbox 360 keyboard / mouse / etc. adapter goes on sale... sort of
Well, ain't that a shame. The XIM3 mega-adapter you've been waiting patiently for went on sale this week, and within 3.299 seconds, the company managed to blow through their entire stock. If you've been out of the loop, this here peripheral is designed to bring keyboards, mice and all sorts of other controlling devices to the average Xbox 360 owner, and it's obviously far more sophisticated than its predecessor. The good news is that it's only $149.99, but the bad news is that the source link currently directs you to a sign-up form to be notified of when stock is refreshed. It's pretty clear that the company's having trouble keeping 'em around, so we'd keep a pretty constant check on the site if you'd like to be a part of the first second wave. Oh, and don't be shocked to see your online skills mysteriously decline over the weekend -- something tells us a few folks will have an unfair advantage on the other side. Advent Vega goes on sale in the UK, promptly sells out
No Android Market? No problem! The 10-inch Advent Vega tablet, famously boasting NVIDIA's Tegra 2 chipset, just went on sale across the pond earlier today, and after a matter of hours, the £249 device has already sold out. In a message that sounds eerily similar to that uttered by HP regarding its Slate, PC World has confessed that the first shipment "sold out nearly as quickly as 'Take That' tickets." It's hard to say just how "unprecedented" the demand was with no actual sales figures, but it looks as if this here tablet will be quite the item this holiday season. The Tickle Me Elmo of slates? Maybe, just maybe. Update: We've touched base with PC World and Currys in the UK, and both reckon that it'll be "another week or two" before stock is replenished.
Toshiba Libretto W100 sells out at Amazon, really was a limited run
We know, we just told you less than 48 hours ago that the dual screen Toshiba Libretto W100 was finally on sale and after $1,100 of your hard earned cash, but it looks like those that didn't move quick enough are out of luck. Both Toshiba and Amazon list the Windows 7-running Libretto W100 as out of stock at the moment. Now, of course, Tosh has always said the W100 was going to be available on a limited basis so there's no telling how many of these were actually sold, but it certainly seems impressive for a very niche gadget. We've reached out to Toshiba to ask if they plan on refreshing the depleted stock and for a bit of information on how many they had boxed up to begin with -- stay tuned, we'll let you know what we hear. Update: If you're still lusting after one of these bad boys there's still some available through Conics.com and some Japanese retailers.
Amazon's third-generation Kindle 'temporarily sold out,' bookworms curse the universe
Gone so soon, Kindle? Due to what we can only assume is unprecedented demand or a terrible shortfall in supply, Amazon's third-generation Kindle (you know, the one with 3G and WiFi) is already sold out. Just days after being pushed into the world, the $189 e-reader is now hoisting a "temporarily sold out" sign, with Bezos and Company urging prospective consumers to place their order now in order to "reserve a place in line." So, what'll it be? Reserve now, or throw a temper tantrum? Tough call, we know. [Thanks, Philip]
Nexus One is sold out in Google's store -- forever
Google warned us that the Nexus One was approaching the end of its days, but we've gotta admit, we didn't realize just how quickly that moment would come. Sure enough, Google's official online store for the phone now just shows an ominous message that "the Nexus One is no longer available for purchase directly" from the company, which means you're going to have to go through Vodafone, KT in South Korea, or hold out for the units that they plan on selling directly to registered developers. Needless to say, for the bulk of potential customers, the phone is all but history. So, on that note, Nexus One: for your straight-shooting stock Android ways and your unlocked radio, you'll be dearly missed -- and we hope your legacy lives on, even though your retail model does not. Droid X sold out online and scarce at retail
Verizon told CNET the company had "done everything possible" to ensure adequate supply of the Droid X, but there's apparently no anticipating the demand for a top-tier smartphone -- like the Droid Incredible before it, the giant 1GHz Motorola handset is already out of stock, both online (today's orders suffer a ten-day delay) and in many brick and mortar stores. Verizon confirmed the shortages in a communique to Android Central, saying the company was pleased with initial sales, and that though they were "successful at keeping up with early demand" supplies are presently "low or out." Tomorrow's just not going to work out, our anti-gravitational friend -- can we take a July 27th raincheck? [Thanks, Haitham]
Pixel Qi dual-mode displays sell out, in a good way
Unless you're in the music biz, selling out is generally considered a good thing just as long as you can restock, pronto like, to meet consumer demand. So we're sure Mary Lou Jepsen is roiling in her jollies knowing that the first batch of $275 dual-mode Pixel Qi displays have sold out after less than 24 hours of retail availability. You can pre-order now for a second shipment of the 10.1-inch reflective LCDs expected to arrive on MakerShed by the middle of next week. Until then, we patiently wait for the first-hand DIY experiences to begin trickling in.
HTC EVO 4G sold out online once again
It's happened before, and it's happening again: the EVO 4G's getting hard to find. We're sure you'd be able to track it down locally, but the option that requires the least dreadful physical movement -- ordering online -- isn't an option for now, with Sprint saying "this device is so hot we can't keep it on our virtual shelves." We imagine the situation will clear itself up shortly, but it makes you wonder -- could the screen separation fix on the assembly line be the culprit behind the shortage? [Thanks, James]
Apple iPhone 4 pre-orders now sold out?
We have no idea how this happened given the insane problems Apple and AT&T have had processing iPhone 4 pre-orders today, but lots of people (including us) are seeing a July 2 ship date at Apple's online store, or about a week after the next-gen iPhone launches on June 24. Frankly, that's amazing -- we can only imagine the kind of sustained rush it took to cause a sellout of a product virtually no one was actually able to order. So that's Apple and AT&T both sold out -- at this point it's looking like standing in line somewhere come launch day is going to be your best bet, but we'll let you know if we hear any better news. HTC EVO 4G sold out pretty much everywhere
It's being widely reported that the HTC EVO 4G is sold out all over the US -- at brick and mortars and online. And while we can't 100 percent certain that Sprint doesn't have a few hidden away in some of the less traversed pockets of this great land, the fact that they're selling out shouldn't come as a huge shocker. The phone overtook the Palm Pre to become Sprint's best-selling launch day ever, though we don't have an actual number of units moved.
